On June 14-15, 2010, NSFC Vice President Prof. Wang Jie attended the 76th IIASA Council Meeting in Vienna, Austria. Over 20 representatives from Austria, China, Egypt, Finland, Germany, India, Korea, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Sweden, South Africa, United States attended the meeting.
In the council meeting, Prof. Winterfeldt, Director of IIASA, made a working report on IIASA s performance since the last council meeting. In the last 12 months, scientists at IIASA have published over 100 papers, including 2 in Science, 1 in Nature, and 3 in PNAS. The Council discussed on the Implementation Plan of IIASA s 2011-2020 Strategic Plan and related issues.
In order to listen to the opinions of IIASA NMOs on the Implementation Plan, it has been decided to hold 5 workshops in NMO countries before November Council meeting. China, as one of IIASA NMO, has promised to hold one workshop in the country on Drivers of Global Transformation.
During the visit, Prof. Wang met with the Chinese participants of IIASA Yong Scientists Summer Program and Chinese scholars who are working at IIASA, listened to their research work at IIASA, encouraged them to make full use of IIASA as a platform to promote knowledge accumulation and to establish ties with participants from other countries for potential cooperation.
