The reason for the base was to establish an ex-situ conservation base for giant pandas which focuses on captive management, breeding, disease prevention, scientific research, and conservation. The base is also one of the government s the main research centers for endangered species ex-situ conservation. Through the work hard of the base staff, the captive population at the panda base has increased from 6 to 87 individuals (still the largest captive panda population in the world). Afterwards, Dr. Zhang introduced the current situation of giant panda conservation, and encouraged compassion in the public from all circles to support and promote giant panda conservation.
