Spain coach Vicente del Bosque on Friday joined the Spanish nobility when he was granted the title of Marques by King Juan Carlos II.

Bosque was named a Marques mainly for leading Spain to success in last summer's World Cup, although the King also highlighted Del Bosque's, "great dedication to Spanish sport and his contribution to helping form sporting values in our society."

Del Bosque, a hugely popular figure in Spain, was delighted at the reward, which he accepted with the humility that has characterized him throughout his career.

"I am slightly embarrassed by it. It is a great detail from his Majesty, who has wanted to award all of the World Champions through me. This kind of award obliges us to be better people every day of our lives," said Del Bosque, who added that his award, "reflected the merits of the whole squad."

"I expect the players will continue to call me 'coach' or Vicente," he joked.
