Sponsored by Department of Education of GuangdongProvince and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, FLTRP Cup & Guangdong College English Speaking Contest was held at the auditorium of the library in GuangdongPoliceCollegeon 30th, October. 55 contestants from key universities like SunYat-SenUniversity and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies participated in the contest. Zhong Yingxian (conducted by Mr. Li Feiwu and Ms. Li Hongyu), a junior student from School of Foreign Study in SCAU outshone other remarkable competitors and won the Special Prize.

The contest consisted of two parts: semi-final and final. In semi-final round, contestants were required to have a 3-minute impromptu speech after 15 minutes preparing time, which was of higher demand of their English language abilities, knowledge horizon and mental qualities. When it came to the final round, it included the prepared speech, impromptu speech and Question & Answer part. Contestants would have a 3-minute prepared speech first, and then a 1-minute impromptu speech after 30 seconds preparation. Finally, they were given 2 minutes to answer the questions raised from their impromptu speech. The final round was extremely challenging. Zhong Yingxian, with her excellent English skills, quick-witted mind and stable performances, took the lead along the way, and successfully advanced to the final with the other 12 contestants. While in the final round, she again showed a wonderful performance and gained the applauses among the judges and the audiences. Finally, she did win the Special Prize.

The Top 3 of the competition--Ye Zhenqi from Guangdong University of Chinese Medicine, Gu Yujing from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Zhong Yingxian from SCAU would represent students in Guangdong province and headed to Beijing for the national final in December. What s more, SCAU student, Dai Wanting, the contestant of the non-professional group also had a good performance during the competition and won a prize of Excellence.

The outstanding performance of SCAU contestants reflected the fruitful achievements of English teaching. More importantly, it was a great stimulus for students to improve their English learning in the future.
