On March 3, the Davos World Economic Forum announced the list for Young Global Leaders, 2010 . 13individuals from China Mainland have been nominated, including Professor Xie Youshun of SYSU, Professor Pan Jianwei of University of Science and Technology of China, Editor-in-chief of Southern Weekly Xiang Xi, and Assistant Professor Chen Lu of University of California, Berkeley, among whom Xie Youshun is a young literary critic who has written more than ten books on literary criticism such as "Living in Truth" and "Discourse Morality".

Every year the World Economic Forum will identify 200-300 extraordinary individuals under the age of 40 drawn back from every region of the world who have "made great achievement in their fields, who are influential and with leadership experience, having strong will to serve the society and hoping to solve the most challenging issues the world is facing with his or her abilities". The member will serve 5 years from the day he or she was selected. Currently YGL is made up of more than 600 members. Yao Ming, Ma Yun, Ding Lei, Cao Guowei and Jia Zhangke had all been nominated. The founder of Google Lary Page & Sergey Brin, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, and Secretary & CEO of CIVICUS Kumi Naidoo, too, had been elected.

According to the announcement from the organizer of YGL, YGL requires no application. The shortlisted candidates were evaluated by Heidrick & Struggles, recognized as one of the world's leading executive search firms. And as a final step in the selection process, the candidates were screened by the Selection Committee chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Selection Committee voted to 5000 candidates, finally all of the winning candidates proved themselves as "having made outstanding achievement in their own field, having great sense of social responsibility , extraordinary leadership and the potential to create a promising future" with their achievements .
