The Launching Ceremony for Shanghai 2010 World Expo Hunan Week of Promotion and the Unveiling Ceremony for Haibo Settling in Hunan Province were held this morning at Dong fanghong Square at Hunan Univ

The Hunan Provincial People's Government signed the Provincial Government-University Construction of the Supercomputer Center Framework Agreement with National University of Defense Technology (UNDT) and Hunan University in Changsha on the afternoon of August 20, which marked the kick-off of the comprehensive construction of the supercomputer center. Xu Shousheng, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and acting governor of Hunan Province, delivered a speech at the signing ceremony and awarded letters of appointment to nine members of the expert committee of this center.

Mr. Xu said that the construction of the center is a new exploration to strengthen the cooperation between the Hunan Provincial Government and institutions of higher learning and to promote the construction of independent innovation capability. Such efforts are bound to deepen the integration between new-type industrialization and informationization and further accelerate the construction of the energy-conserving and environmentally friendly society.

Zhang Yulin, president of UNDT, remarked that the supercomputer center will be developed into a major platform to make use of technical innovation, drive industrial development and pool high-end talents.
