CMB President Dr. Lincoln C. Chen Visits HUST

Dr. Lincoln C. Chen, President of the China Medical Board CMB and Dr. Roman Dong Xu, Director of CMB Beijing Office, arrived in Wuhan on April 14, kicking off their two-day visit to HUST.

Prof. Lu Gang, Chairman of HUST Committee, met the delegation on April 15. Prof. Lu briefed the achievements and status quo of Tongji Medical College TMC . The two exchanged their views on the topics that interested them. They took photos after presenting souvenirs to the guests.

The collaborative meeting between CMB and TMC was held on the morning of April 15. Prof. Feng Youmei, Executive Vice Chairman of HUST Committee and Director of TMC attended the meeting. Participation also involved directors from the International Exchange Center, Academic Affairs Office, Office of Science and Technology Development, School of Medicine and Health Management, School of Public Health and the Department of Nursing.

Prof. Feng in her welcome speech pointed out it was a pleasure to have Dr. Chen and Dr. Xu visit us. CMB aims to advance health in China and neighboring countries through strengthening medical, nursing and public health research and education. CMB has endowed over 200 million to neighboring countries. The endowment to Chinese medical education and research has greatly promoted the development of Chinese medical science and medical personnel resources. HUST attaches great importance to Dr. Chen's visit, hoping that through this visit CMB can have a better understanding of Tongji Medical College which enjoys a hundred-year history. It is of our sincere hope that Tongji Medical College can make new breakthroughs with the help of CMB in order to benefit more people, Feng said. Feng wished a fruitful cooperation between the two parties.

Dr. Chen noted he was pleased to come to HUST and acknowledged the warm reception of TMC. He mentioned, CMB currently has supported ten projects in Chinese medical fields. Recently the multidirectional grant support has been shifted to the support of key projects entailing medical education reform, establishment of medical policy system, rural medical health and tobacco control. Chen believed Tongji Medical College has great potential and a solid foundation in the above mentioned fields, and they are much interested in the cooperation with HUST. He expected to yield harvest and progress for the cooperation.

Dr. Xu introduced the grantee priorities and presented suggestions for further collaboration.
