An engineering vehicle works in the collapsed section of the Yellow River embankment on March 24.

Ordos city government secretary Wang Zhiping said a 100-meter section was blocked up at 5:30 PM Tuesday. Hundreds of workers with 92 dump trucks, two bulldozers and a forklift helped with the work.

A 60-meter-long section was closed by more than 1,000 people at 2:30 AM Sunday.

The flood waters receded significantly after the embankments were repaired.

More than 10,000 people on the southern bank of the Yellow River, the second longest in China, were evacuated from their homes to the Kubuqi desert, around 10 kilometers from the town, on Thursday night.

The river had been near danger levels since the ice began to thaw, with only 50 centimeters between the water and the top of the embankment.

No casualties have been reported.
