At 11:30 am 8 November 2008, after more than 10 hours of voyage, the Taiwan Passenger Liner Tai Ma Lun which sailed from Keelung Port berthed at Mawei, Fujian Province. This symbolizes that the Mawei-Mazu route (a direct shipping route between mainland s Fujian Province and Taiwan) has been extended from the Mazu Islands to the main island of Taiwan.
Mawei Customs House (affiliated to Fuzhou Customs District) set up a dedicated channel and designated officers to help the 400 passengers on board get through customs procedures in time.
