On 3 December 2008, 480 cows were ferried to Chengdu by a charter flight from Australia. The cows which are worth USD 1.2 million were all purchased by Meishan Hongya Farm of Mengniu Group (one of the leading enterprise of the dairy industry in China). The farm is one of the major programs for post-disaster reconstruction launched by Sichuan Provincial People s Government. Chengdu Customs District provided convenient services and released the cows after they were unloaded on the apron.
