Officers of Wuhan Customs District said they had seized a solid waste trafficking case recently. The imported goods in the case which were declared as nylon ropes to the customs turned out be to used ropes, fabrics, fishing nets and plastic bottles. These solid wastes had been returned back, said the officers.
According to Wuhan Customs District, the importer in the case was doing business on the internet when they met the exporter who claimed that they had some almost new nylon ropes produced in Europe to sell. Seeing the samples showed in the pictures sent by the exporter, the importer believed that the products were of high quality and closed the deal.
However, in June, when the goods arrived for customs formalities, Customs officers found out that the so-called quality nylon ropes were actually discarded materials. Later, these junks which were contained in two 40 foot containers and weighed 49 tons were confirmed by the officials of Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences as solid wastes whose entry is prohibited by the State.
Customs officers said that domestic dealers should be more careful when importing used materials from aboard. For those materials whose entry is restricted, dealer should first apply with the environmental protection authorities and go through the relevant formalities. And as for those junks whose entry is prohibited, dealers should never get involved into the business, or they will have to accept the full consequences of their behaviors.
