Reduce GDP consumption, Mengniu unswervingly practices green strategy

On October 18, the Fifth Plenum of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China targeting at setting keynote for the Twelfth Five-Year Planning was successfully concluded. Huangli, vice director of Department of Energy Saving and Technology Equipment under National Energy Administration, revealed that during the twelfth Five-Year period, the goal for GDP consumption per unit were going to decrease by 17.3%; until 2020, this index would be cut down by 31% compared to the year 2010. As steadfast supporter of state policy, Mengniu s determination on low carbon development had been early made.

First initiator of green industrial chain

Besides recyclable economy and ecological farm that has been adhering to, Mengniu also initiated champagnes such as 100 Actions to Save Earth , Well Treat Earth and Save Energy , and Green Transportation, Carbon Move , etc. In 2010, Mengniu initiated brand road show activities in the theme of green, for example, collection of grass picture in milk pack, recycling squashed milk package, tour to ecological grassland and public service singing concert, etc.

On the site of this year s ecological move, Mengniu released dairy industry s first green plan which would be probably recognized by FSC Forest. This plan was also going to plant the philosophy of green development into each link of Mengniu.

Regarding milk supply, Mengniu proactively pushes forward construction of large ecological farm and the counterpart infrastructures, such as the already built globally largest cow manure biogas power plant; for production, Mengniu makes efforts to saving energy, measures like building 10,000 tons-scale sewage disposal plant were taken to recycle water; in daily office work, Mengniu encourages employees to print the both side of work paper and take public transportation for green purpose; regarding logistics, Mengniu makes nearby principle to cut carbon emission during transportation.

Upgraded strategy with various innovative measures

In order to respond calls of country to reach standard of GDP consumption, Mengniu s green strategy is upgrading as well to realize new effect that brought about by green and low carbon economy.

Mengniu has made further exploration on dairy low carbon model. A few days ago, Mengniu signed cooperation agreement with one of largest world s environmental protection organization WWF and joined the carbon emission reduction plan . In five years development in the future, Mengniu and WWF will jointly set various quantifiable standards and working procedures with China National Institute of Standardization and SGS company so that five years carbon emission target can be gradually realized. This will be the first carbon emission cutting plan from Chinese dairy industry.

We are not only going to build a green industrial chain including green milk, green factory and production, green transportation, green package and green consumption, but also to strengthen control from the source of production to actually implement index of emission reduction plan.
