On May 20, Mr. Chen Yunhua, General Manager of Ertan Hydropower Development Co. Ltd (Employer) and Mr. Yang Jixue, President of CGGC (Contractor) signed a contract of 3.45 billion Yuan RMB for right bank works of Jinping Hydropower Project I and powerhouse works of Jinping II. It means the development of Yalongjiang Basin, the fourth hydroelectric power base in China commenced officially.
Being the largest tributary of Jinshajiang River, Yalongjiang River rises on the South of Mount Bayankala, with a total length of 1571 km, a drop of 3830 m, and a total technical exploitable installed capacity of 28,560 MW, amount to one fourth of Sichuan province's total. Both in overall storage capacity and tatal installed capacity, Jinping Project I and II ranked the leading of 21 planned hydropower projects on the Yalongjiang River.
With a designed height of 305 m, Jinping Project is the highest thin double curved arch dam both in completed, under construction and design stage in the world, it is unusual difficult in construction. Its diversion tunnels with 16.6 km long and 12 m diameter by high technical parameters ranked the leading of international underground works. The total installed capacity of the two Projects reached 8400 MW, among which Stage I : 6 600 MW and Stage II : 8 600 MW.
