CFRD of Shuibuya HPP built by CGGC in west of Hubei is accredited as a leading world-level landmark by International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) and China National Committee on Large Dams (CNCOLD) on 23 April 2008 in the international technical achievement exchange conference of Shuibuya CFRD.
This conference was held in Yichang as of 22 April 2008 among representatives from ICOLD and CNCOLD in which demonstration and verification of the said dam were fully exercised in terms of construction concept, workmanship, quality control, environmental protection and so on. A conclusion that Shuibuya CFRD as a leading world-level landmark would be helpful to construction of higher CFRD in the world was made through site visit and strict review of technical data of the said dam.
233m high Shuibuya CFRD, 46m higher than Aguamilpa Dam in Mexico, once highest CRFD in the world, is the only dam over 200m in the world by now. Successful completion of Shuibuya CFRD not only broke the theoretical constraint on CFRD under 200m as accepted by international dam engineers but also made technical breakthrough on construction of highest CFRD in karst region.
It was common consent by the experts present in the Conference that remarkable breakthrough on construction and quality control, monitoring and control of Shuibuya CFRD performance was made through wide application of new technology, workmanship and materials. Consequently maxi dam settlement of only 1% of dam height and seepage less than 40l/s were achieved, rarely in the world. Mr. Luis Berga, chairman of ICOLD stated that Shuibuya CRFD was a milestone of world CRFD.
It is known that CFRD is a popular type of dam in the world and totally there are more than 91 under construction and not less than 65 under design. Therefore success in Shuibuya HPP would be much helpful to the dam engineering in the world.
