A new mode of railway cargo transport featuring better punctuality and speed were launched on the Guangzhou-Shanghai route to help quench the thirst for train services in the booming Yangtze and Pearl River deltas.
The train will no longer have to give way to passenger trains along its route, and will run at 120 kilometres per hour on average and complete the trip within 23 hours.
The service has become available after the large-scale increase in train speed that was implemented in China recently, and a reform of the railway authorities. The train service will guarantee much greater availability, punctuality and speed.
With a capacity of 230 tons or 2,197 cubic metres for cargo only, the train also includes carts dedicated to postal services.
The train service will better meet the logistics demand in the two deltas, which hold immense logistics potential because of substantial economic interaction.
One of the largest third-party logistics firms in China, the Guangzhou-based and privately held P.G. Logistics won the right to operate the train cargo service through a public tender organized by China Railway Parcel Express Co.
The company serves more than 40 of the world"s top 500 firms in their Chinese operations.
