TCL Won 2006 China's Best Corporate Citizen Award

December 07th,2006

December 6 2006, Beijing TCL Corporation announces that it has won 2006 The 3rd China s Best Corporate Citizen in China Award in its first time participation. Having built the image of a good corporate citizen with stability and sustainable development, TCL was awarded China s Best Corporate Citizen along with 19 other domestic and overseas famous enterprises.

This year s competition attracted hundreds of participating enterprises from different industries all over the world. They competed fiercely for these 20 coveted slots over the course of half a year s time. Six Chinese enterprises, including TCL, have outdone themselves in the areas of employee benefits, environmental protection and social welfare, among several other evaluated categories, and won China s Best Corporate Citizen Award together with some international enterprises such as BASF, Intel, Ford and Siemens.

Their status as role models of good corporate citizens has been further solidified.

In the 25 years since its establishment, TCL has been persistent in the mission of undertaking social responsibilities and becoming a good corporate citizen and is one of the first companies to raise corporate citizenship to strategic levels. From the management team to staff of all levels, they have undertaken a wide range of social responsibilities covering pro bono education, helping the poor, employee benefits and environmental protection.

In the public welfare sector, TCL has always chosen to contribute to programs with the greatest social value such as Project Hope College Dream, donations to victim countries of Tsunami and promotion of the French Culture Year, etc. These activities were widely recognized by the society and gained endorsement of the judges in this competition.

In 2006, TCL was one of the 10 organizers of the Chinese Association for Corporate Social Responsibility and is currently taking initiatives in other areas of social welfare as well.

According to Mr. Li Dongsheng, President of TCL, as it accelerates and broadens its international presence, TCL has identified a number of key areas of work. It is committed to offering a comfortable work environment to employees, upholding trustworthy attitude and consumer-oriented principles to customers, contributing to environmental protection, and strengthening collaboration with supply chain partners.

TCL will establish its long-term strategy with a panoramic, stable and sustainable developmental view. It has been said that TCL did not choose bankruptcy to address its European consolidation issues, even though it would have been cost-effective to do so, partly because of ethical concerns for its employees as well as society.

The award is sponsored by 21CN, the most influential business medium in China. As one of the first media to promote the concept of corporate citizenship, the organizer evaluated hundreds of candidate enterprises using a strict screening procedure across six distinct categories, consisting of company management and ethics, protection of employee rights, environmental protection, social welfare, supply chain partnership and consumer rights protection.

Ultimately, 20 excellent enterprises won the award. Experts say that this competition not only redefines the concept of what constitutes a good enterprise, but also sets new benchmarks for all corporate behavior.
