May 28th 2008, Shen Zhen - in recent weeks, TCL Corporation employees have continued to make charitable donations, with the corporation s various subsidiary businesses participating in new care and relief activities, based on the situation in the disaster zone and the urgent needs of those affected. To date, TCL Corporation and its employees have donated a total of more than RMB7m. The relief effort is ongoing.
By May 25th, donations from TCL Corporation and its various subsidiary businesses exceeded RMB4m. Furthermore, the TCL Home Appliances Group is donating portable air conditioners for use in temporary hospital tents where disaster victims are being treated. 11,000 hand-dynamo powered rechargeable flashlights have been transported to the disaster area and are now in use, while 1,000 TV sets and 1,000 DVD players are currently on their way to the area. These will enable disaster victims to access information.
In addition to making donations, TCL Corporation has paid special attention to disaster relief work for its employees from Sichuan. The firm immediately carried out roll calls for all employees from Sichuan and issued a universal hardship grant to them. TCL Corporation has also been working closely with news agencies and labor departments to quickly begin the task of reconnecting Sichuan employees with any lost or displaced relatives. The corporation is currently preparing to implement further care and relief measures for the families of employees affected by the earthquake.
TCL Corporation s open online distance learning center operates a total of 54 study centers, with 7,932 students located in the quake zone. After the disaster occurred, the learning center s "Disaster Relief Working Group" sprung into action, actively arranging OpenOnline s own internal earthquake relief and disaster assistance efforts. Besides donating a total of RMB470, 000, they also established one-to-one and group support mechanisms, waiving tuition fees for students in affected areas to ensure that every single student is able to graduate regardless of their situation.
