On April 27, the first metro vehicle built for Chengdu No.1 Subway Line by CSR Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. has rolled off the production line, and will be the first one put into operation in southwest China.
The vehicle highlights such design concepts as advancement, maturation, environmental protection and humanization. For example, the vehicle is equipped with the internationally advanced AC drive traction system, the body is selected to be an advanced lightweight stainless steel one characterized by strong corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and long service life, and the surface is done with painting-free treatment, which turns out to be environmentally friendly and also reduces the maintenance costs thereof.
In addition, the roof s built-in structure is selected to be a modular one, which makes the vehicle more lightweight and magnifies its energy saving and environmental protection. The vehicle is adopted with the pattern of 4 driving compartments plus 2 trailing compartments, having max. operating speed of 80 kilometers per hour, and 1,468 personnel quota per compartment, at most 1,880.
The vehicle is also unique for its human-oriented design. For example, the painting-free stainless steel body is of metal aesthetic sense, the round head is novel and fresh, and the unique full false window band structure is very stylish and elegant. The internal design takes full account of the climatic characteristics of hot flashes in Chengdu, and for example, both the use of such fresh elegant cold tones as white, blue, stainless steel metallic color and the use of embossed stainless steel seats impress the passengers with modernization and refreshing.
The passenger information display system, video play system and so on can timely provide the passengers the information with respect to destination arrival, news, culture and entertainment. 8 special areas are prepared for the disabled to place their wheelchairs. All passenger compartments are equipped with camera monitoring systems to conduct real-time surveillance against every and each corner, which will be synchronously displayed onto the large-screen monitoring system of the ground command center, so as to realize the vehicle s remote scheduling and safety monitoring, achieving a significant improvement to the vehicle s safety level.
Furthermore, all passenger compartments are equipped with emergency alarms, and thus the passengers can communicate with the drivers in the event of an emergency to get its effective disposal.

It is reported that Sifang will start the mass production after the completion of 5,000 km pattern test for the first compartment, and the compartments will be successively delivered to Chengdu and then will go through joint debugging with respect to signal, communications, etc. June 2010, 17 metro vehicles with total 102 compartments for the first phase of Chengdu No.1 Subway Line will be delivered to Chengdu, and it is expected that the line will launch its trial operation by the end of 2010.
