CSR Organizes Urban Rail Low-carbon Technology Symposium

On March 17, several energy-saving and emission reduction experts in urban rail traffic sector from China Communications and Transportation Association Urban Rail Traffic Committee and metro companies in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Guangzhou gathered at CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd., considered one of the low-carbon technology export bases in China urban rail traffic engineering sector, to discuss and research the low-carbon technology s application and promotion in urban rail traffic engineering, in a bid to boost China s energy saving and emission reduction cause.

China ever made commitment at the Copenhagen Climate Conference that by 2020, China s GDP carbon dioxide emission would decrease 40% 45% from 2005. During the two national conferences, the low-carbon economy focusing on new energies and energy saving and emission reduction became the spotlight, and low-carbon technology was one of the cores for China s technological development and technical innovation in the future.

Experts at the symposium pointed out that at present, China s urban rail traffic equipment technology was internationally advanced, but the development of metro engineering maintenance vehicle was backward. Due to this, it is urgent for Chinese government to remove the internal combustion-type metro engineering maintenance vehicle s smoke, dust, and noise in the tunnel, alter the public s previous travel habits, speedily eliminate the internal combustion-type metro engineering maintenance vehicle featuring high energy consumption and high pollution, and advocate the application of clean and low-carbon technology in urban rail traffic engineering.

At the beginning of last December, Shenzhen Metro Group and CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. signed China s first dual-energy electric power, accumulator metro engineering maintenance vehicle contract, heralding Chinese metro engineering maintenance vehicle sector s official entry into green, low-carbon, and energy-saving times.

Experts had in-depth research and discussion in respect of promotion of dual-energy metro engineering maintenance vehicle, and conducted further communication in respect of metro companies application of energy-saving and emission reduction technologies.

It is learned that the total quantity of metro engineering maintenance vehicles in China amounts to hundreds of units. If replacing the internal combustion-type metro engineering maintenance vehicles with dual-energy metro engineering maintenance vehicles, carbon emission can be directly reduced by hundreds of thousands of tons, implying that there is immense potential for China urban rail traffic sector to apply low-carbon technology for energy saving and emission reduction.

At the symposium, five common grounds in respect of promoting the application of low-carbon technology in China urban rail traffic engineering sector were achieved, and China Communications and Transportation Association Urban Rail Traffic Committee would promote the formulation of relevant industry standards like metro engineering maintenance vehicle industry standard etc., in order to urge China to jostle into low-carbon technology application countries in urban rail traffic engineering sector.
