Ground Breaking of Bank of China Information Center Project

Recently, Bank of China (BOC) has held a grand ceremony on the ground breaking of BOC Information Center Project (Beijing), on which BOC President Li Lihui, government officials from Beijing Municipal and Haidian District as well as the representative from the Contractor have respectively addressed and jointly earthed the foundation stone up.

BOC Information Center Project (Beijing) has a very favorable geographical location, with the beautiful Baiwang Mountain to the north, Jing-mi Channel to the west, BOC International Finance Research Institute to the south and Shangdi Hi-tech Park to the east. This Project is one of the key projects of Beijing Municipal in 2005.

During the short period of one year plus, a series of procedures have been completed, such as site selection, planning, land acquisition, bidding for designer and consulting engineer, removal and commencement. On the construction land of 146 mu, supplies of water, electricity and road and leveled ground are realized, which has provided good conditions for commencement.

This Project is the core project of Bank of China and also the key project providing good financial services for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. After its completion, the Project would become one of the biggest data processing centers in China. It would provide centralized data processing for over 10,000 BOC branches all over the world, guaranteeing the 7 24 safe and reliable operation.

It would provide faster, more convenient and efficient financial services to all corporate customers, personal customers and institutional customers. BOC would make full use of this technological platform to provide multi-level financial services for the Olympic Games. After the completion of this Project, BOC would prepare a financial management software customized with the requirements of BOCOG, provide BOCOG with various services such as information consulting, account inquiry, instant online transfer, online clearing, integrated credit facility, international settlement, Golden Custom Project, and provide the delegations, athletes, coaches, media people, audience and businessmen with different financial services such as bank card, ATM, self-service terminal, self-service banking, currency exchange.

Moreover, it would enable BOC to separate business data from business organizations, establish a solid foundation for centralized management and scientific operation, help to realize a series of strategic objectives such as risk control, products management and decision-making support, and have vital influence on the overall planning of BOC s future business development.

In view of the important status of the Center in the history of BOC construction, the construction of this Project should reflect its high advancement in availability, reliability, security and technology, obligate the space for expansion. Executives of the Head Office require it to be built into a world-class data processing center with high quality, security and time efficiency.

It is reported that the construction area of this Project is 104,400 m2, where the Phase I Project occupies 60,000 m2. It is estimated that the main structure would be completed by the end of 2006.
