The two agreements are Agreement concerning the Construction, Maintenance and Operation of the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research on the Yanqihu Campus of GUCAS and Partnership Agreement for the Establishment of the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research, GUCAS.
Since 21 May, 2008 when a delegation from the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and from eight Danish universities visited GUCAS, the Chinese and Danish sides have conducted seven rounds of negotiations concerning the SDC project, finally reaching a mutually agreeable consensus. Both sides agreed that the Danish Industry Foundation will donate 80 million DKK (approximately 100 million RMB) to finance the construction of the building for SDC and GUCAS will provide land for the building at the new GUCAS Yanqihu Campus. During 16-18 October, 2009, GUCAS and eight Danish universities jointly held an initial and well-received Symposium & Workshop, in which over 160 professors and scientists from both sides enthusiastically participated.
GUCAS is taking the lead in organizing the SDC project together with relevant CAS institutes, other research institutes and higher education institutions in China and eight Danish universities and other universities overseas. Having designated Nanoscience & Nanotechnologies, Renewable Energy, Water & Environment, Life Sciences & Biomedicine and Innovation & Welfare Studies as prioritized research areas, SDC will emphasize the complementary advantages of China and Denmark to initiate comprehensive collaboration in joint research and education for PhD and Masters degree students, as well as scientific and technological innovation, R&D technology transfer and transformation.
The SDC project, which will significantly benefit graduate students and researchers, will also be of substantial value to commercial enterprises, non-profit organizations and society as a whole. It will serve as a platform for promoting the exchange of education, technology, culture and personnel between China and Denmark and between those two countries and the rest of the world.
Professor DENG Yong, chairman of the University Council, and officials and representatives from Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and from Danish universities, attended the signing ceremony.
