2010 WEIHAI Fig cultural tourism month kicks off

Weihai 2010 fig cultural tourism month, sponsored by Weihai Economic & Technological Development Zone, launches at Weihai Letian Resting Plaza, September 19. Many visitors from America, Spain, Korea and domestic cities attends the opening ceremony.
The theme of festival is tasting Weihai fig, enjoying healthy life which will be running September 19 -October 30. A series of economic and cultural activities will be held during the event, including fig culture exhibits, oil painting exhibits, fig sightseeing and gathering. The domestic and foreign visitors will experience picking figs themselves and the power of Weihai fig culture by tasting fig banquet.
Weihai fig enjoys a high reputation in the national fig growing industry, thanks to its long planting history and managerial experience. In recent years, Weihai Economic & Technical Development Zone doubles its efforts to expand fig industry by setting up standardized fig planting plot areas.
Weihai has been the bigest fig producing area all over the country. So far, Weihai has 10 major fig picking orchards with the planting area of 3335 hectares, and 10-plus fig converted products. Weihai fig has been the first fig geographical indication (GI) certification mark in 2008, and this year, it has been approved GI protection by AQSIQ.
