Qinhuai Lantern Show Starting from 11th

On the evening of Feb. 11th, 2010 Jiangsu Qinhuai Lantern Show in the theme of Dragons Rising and Tigers Leaping, Excitement for Both Jiangsu & Taiwan will be officially opened by the Qinhuai River of Nanjing. This is the first New Year Lantern Show jointly held by the mainland and Taiwan and the first activity for the deepened cooperation and communication between Jiangsu and Taiwan in 2010.

It is announced on the Lantern Show press conference that, as the counterpart of Qinhuai Lantern Show, Taiwan (Jiayi) Lantern Show will be opened on Feb. 28th (Jan. 15th of Lunar Calendar).

During the duration of two lantern shows across Taiwan Strait, lantern handicraftsmen of both Taiwan and Nanjing will respectively show their tour de force by making exquisite lanterns for exchanged exhibition. Mutual visit to lantern shows will also be organized by Jiangsu and Taiwan.

On the night of Feb. 11th, a large phoenix lantern set called Fei Qi (flying & perching) , made by Taiwan handicraftsmen will be displayed by the Huanhua Bridge of Bailuzhou Park. Around the phoenix lantern, there are accessory lanterns to harmonize the integrated atmosphere. Nanjing handicraftsmen specially make a set of dragon lanterns, coiling by the Yinyue Bridge, opposite to Huanhua Bridge, accompanying the Taiwan Phoenix .

6 sets of Nanjing lanterns will be on show at Taiwan (Jiayi) Lantern Show. It is introduced by Qinhuai District Tourism Bureau that, the 6 sets of lanterns consist of lantern in the shape of lotus, Number One Scholar Patrolling, the monumental archway of the Confucius Temple, etc. All of them have been fabricated and will soon be sent to Taiwan for installation.

During the show across Taiwan Strait, Taiwan will organize big tourist groups to visit Nanjing and Jiangsu will also organize tourist groups to visit the Jiayi Lantern Show.

This year, the Qinhuai Lantern Show will set a record for its scale. Lantern Show, lantern view and lantern markets scattering along the banks of Qinhuai River will reproduce the beautiful scene of East or west, lamplight of Qinhuai is the best .

The layout of Qinhuai Lantern Show and lantern view will be arranged according to lamp appreciating itinerary of citizens and tourists, i.e., take the Confucius Temple square as the center, place guiding lanterns and hang traditional lanterns on 4 squares, 4 bridges and 2 streets in the scenic spot. Accompanied by nightscape illumination, a festival atmosphere will be created. (Nanjing Daily)
