Nanjing Lukou Airport is not only an important regional hub airport in the country, but also an essential window in Jiangsu s opening up to the outside world. Last year, the airport handled 10.837 person-times of passengers, 106,000 sorties of aircrafts landed or took off at the airport, and the handling capacity of cargo and mail ranked top ten in the civil aviation airports of the country, which made it one of the large-scale airports in China. From the point of view of the overall economic and social development, the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Jiangsu Provincial People s Government take it as the priority of the development of Jiangsu s civil aviation sector to accelerate the construction and development of Nanjing Lukou Airport. They seized the opportunity of the country to boost domestic demand and decided to launch the Phase 2 of the airport. According to the design of the project, by 2020, the handling capacity of passengers and the cargo and mail will be 30 million person-times and 800,000 tons respectively. The newly added facilities include a 3,600-meter-long and 60-meter-wide second runway and taxiway system, a 200,000-square-meter Terminal Two, a 200,000-square-meter apron, 42 parking bays and other supporting facilities such as ground transportation, aviation fuel and air traffic control navigation, with a total investment of 9.898 billion yuan.
