At the beginning of the new year, citizens passionately participated in various cultural and recreational activities despite of the cold weather. Colorful performances, exhibitions, modernized facility and considerate services have provide more choices for citizen s recreational life during the holiday. Cultural Feasts including movies, performances, book markets, art exhibitions organized by movie theatres, book stores, libraries, art galleries and museums enabled citizens to have a happy holiday.
On the first day of the new year, there were 3 New Year Concerts . 2011 Folk Symphony and Chinese Opera Concert held at Nanjing Art and Culture Center attracted many folk music and Chinese opera fans, most of whom are senior citizens. The audience enjoyed the wonderful performances from Nanjing Folk Orchestra and famous opera singers such as Li Jie, Gong Yinlei and Zhu Xiaozhao, on the first day of the new year. Austrian Brass Band 2011 New Year Concert held at Zijin Theatre made the audience feel like dancing with the original Austrian waltz.
Jiangsu Provincial Art Gallery presented a local feast for the audience Exhibition of Collected Works of Li Jianchen. 134 watercolor paintings and Chinese paintings were displayed to unveil the art career of the originator of watercolor painting in China. The journalist saw many visitors attracted by the reputation of the artist.
Some of them brought their children. Mr. Zhao, a teacher of Nanjing University of the Arts explained the works to his 8-year-old daughter. He said that, Mr. Li Jianchen enjoyed longevity and is famous for his art professionalism. What is more admirable is that, he had a heart of gold. He did not seek fame or wealth but dedicated his energy to art educational enterprise.

In Chongsheng Hall of the Heavenly Palace, Nanjing Municipal Museum held a Song Dynasty Dress and Adornment Exhibition, which was well received. Un-rotten tube-top underwear over a thousand years ago and 14cm long shoe were displayed as treasury cultural relics. The most popular showpiece was a gold hairpin of the Song Dynasty a bold gold wire was bended into 13 branches where delicate bud embossment were forged. It is so delicate that some female visitors even wanted to buy it.
