The northern anchor of the Nanjing 4th Yangtze River Bridge which is being built was sealed 3 months ahead of schedule. The foundation of the bridge is completed and the construction enters above-water phase. So the original schedule of complete the bridge in 2013 is hope for to be pulled ahead to 2012.
Bottom plane of the north anchor is 69 meters long and 58 meters wide, equating with the size of 9.6 standard basketball courts. It is 52.8 meters deep, equaling the height of a 18F building. After sealing completes, the northern anchor will be filled with concrete to fasten the suspension cables that draw steel box beams of bridge surface. The northern anchor can sustain the pulling force of 100,000 tons.
Lou Xuequan, Vice-commander of Nanjing 4th Yangtze River Bridge Construction Headquarters says, sealing has been completed for southern anchor, northern/southern tower of the bridge, so as the northern anchor is completed ahead of schedule, the completion of the whole bridge may be pulled ahead to 2012.
