At 22:00p.m on 6th, as the last block of concrete placing finished, the north anchor of the 4th Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge has been successfully sealed.
It is introduced that, this bridge is the first 3-span suspension bridge in China. Steel box beams on the bridge deck are drawn by suspension under the cross-river major steel cable, which was fixed by south and north anchorage and south and north tower. Prior to that, foundation work for the south anchorage and south/north tower has been completed under the water and above water construction is in progress.
The successful sealing of the north anchor symbolizes the completion of all foundation work for the bridge. The project is officially transferred to above-water phase, which is more visualized and controllable. It also indicates that the "most dangerous period" of the construction has passed. Responsible person of the 4th Bridge Construction Headquarters says, the sealing of north anchor is 3 month earlier than the original schedule; hopefully the 4th Bridge will be completed in 2012.
The 4th Yangtze River Bridge is one of the cross-river passage among the integrated plan of "5 bridges and 1 channel" of Nanjing. It is an important part of the Raoyue Highway and cross-river passage. The 4th Bridge is 10km east to the 2nd Yangtze River Bridge. With a total length of 28.996km, it's designed as a dual-six lane highway.
There will be 4 flyover crossing intersections at Hengliang, Longpao, Qixia and Qilin. 2 complementary intersections at Hongguang and Xianlin are reserved. Foundation of the 4th Bridge was laid on Jan. 6th, 2008. As its approved construction period is five years, the bridge will be open to traffic in 2013.
