The outer Qinhuai River of Nanjing was selected as National Water Conservancy Scenic Spot by the Ministry of Water Resources of China, last year.
42 water conservancy scenic spots including The outer Qinhuai River of Nanjing and Zhongyun River of Suqian have been listed as the 8th batch of National Water Conservancy Scenic spots.
Here, the outer Qinhuai River refers to the section of Qinhuai River starting from 500m eastward toWudingmen flood gate and flowing into the Changjiang River at Sancha River outfall. This scenic spot covers 12.2km watercourse, water conservancy project management area alongside and riverside cultural and historic sights.
Experts unanimously shower praise on clear sky, clean water, grasslands and ancient flavor of the area, especially scenic spots like Ancient Changganli, Guiliancheng, Xiaotaoyuan and Hekouzha. They regard the outer Qinhuai Rivers as a necklace with a string of bright pearls and a division as well as tie that perfectly blends the ancient with the modern.
Since 2002, Nanjing has invested 3.5 billion yuan to fully commence renovation project for the outer Qinhuai River. A large scale river outfall flood gate was built where the outer Qinhuai River flows into the Changjiang River, to completely solve the problem of unstable water level caused by fall between the Changjiang River and the outer Qinhuai River.
Statistics shows that water quality of the outer Qinhuai River has achieved Grade Three-Four. Plant coverage along the two banks is as high as 91%. Fish and egrets that have gone for a while now come back. (Jingling Evening News)
