The 4th Yangtze River Bridge Likely to Open in 2012

News came from the 2nd technical expert panel meeting of Nanjing 4th Yangtze River Bridge that, 2010 will be a focusing year for the 4th Bridge and the bridge is likely to be open to traffic by end of 2012, ahead of schedule.

As of end of March, 14 tower pillars were installed to upstream and downstream of the south tower respectively, and concrete pouring for 13 tower pillars for upstream and downstream of the north tower respectively was finished. The construction period is expected to be shortened by over 2 months.

According to preliminary statistics, Quarter One this year, the 4th Yangtze River Bridge has completed investment of 355.08 million RMB, accounting for 25.4% of the yearly plan. Accumulated investment completed is 2.326 billion RMB, accounting for about 33.92% of the total investment.

2010 is the focusing construction year for the 4th Yangtze River Bridge, said the principal of the 4th Bridge Construction Headquarters. Investment of 1.4 billion RMB will be completed in the whole year.

The 4th Bridge is one of the cross river passages of Nanjing and an important part of Raoyue Highway. It is located at 10km downstream of the 2nd Bridge. Its total length is 28.996km, with dual 6 lanes. There will be 4 viaducts at Hengliang, Longpao, Qixia and Qilin. Two intersections have been left at Hongguang and Xianlin. The construction commenced on January 6th, 2008. Its original construction phase was 5 years, and expected completion timing was in 2013. (Nanjing Daily)
