"Love across Half a Century Ukraine Oil Painting Masterpiece Exhibition" opened on October 18th, in Nanjing Library. In one-week exhibition, oil painting masterpieces mostly painted by Ukrainian artist B Zabasht.
Totally 40 pieces are on display and most of theme are scenery sketches. Works of Zabasht feature flexible drawing technique and bold colors. In his classical piece Golden Summer, we can feel the motion in static quietness and easily see the flickering tree branches, mottled light and shadow, flowing air and invisible light beams.
The 93-year-old Zabasht was invited to Nanjing together with 4 USSR artists in 1956. He visited Dr. Sun Yet-san s Mausoleum, Linggu Park, Ming Tomb, the Xuanwu Lake, the Confucius Temple and Nanjing Museum and drew many sketches. These works painted half a century ago are on display in Nanjing.
Cui Chunhua, principal of Anna Culture Company, organizer of the exhibition, is a student of Zabasht. She said her tutor bore Nanjing in mind constantly and he was engaged as Nanjing International Culture Exchange Emissary last year. He always planned to hold an exhibition in Nanjing and wanted to revisit Nanjing this time. It is a pity he couldn t make the trip due to physical conditions.
Art works of USSR painters Vasili Gurin and T.N. Yablonskaya are also on show at the exhibition, most of which were shown in China for the first time.
