New Building of Nanjing Jinling Library Officially Opened

On the morning of October 18th, the new building of Nanjing Jinling Library officially opened. Its highlight is digital service.

The main building of Jinling Library has 4 floors, in the shape of a processed jade Cong. The multi-functional lecture hall on the green slope to the east of the main building is like a Yuhua Stone from the bird s-eye view. Together, it implies carving stone into jade with the power of knowledge. This modern library with an investment of 200 million RMB and an area of 38,000 square meters will bring brand new reading experience for readers.

Through half-a-year try-out, on average over 4000 person-times readers visited the library and nearly 6000 books were borrowed on daily basis. Over 200,000 citizens hold cards of Jinling Library, which is now a study of citizens and a hall of knowledge .

When the new building officially opens, digital services will give convenience to citizens in terms of applying for library cards, borrowing books and inquiring information. Jinling Library Card can be registered with Citizen Card or Jinlingtong Public Transport Card. The successful development of cell phone library realizes inquiry of library resources at any time in any place.

Readers can voluntarily register and log onto Jinling Library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) with their cell phones to inquire book/periodical information, transact reservation and renewal and receive information for free, such as reminder of due date, overdue reminder, reservation notification and forenotices of lectures.

On-line services of Jinling Library will be further enhanced so that readers will be able to inquire information they need, search subjects, have questions answered and transfer documents on-line. They can also get access to a great number of digital resources and download e-books for free. Besides, the library also develops telephone call inquiry for patron readers to inquire about book/periodical information and transact renewal.
