First Batch Programs of Singapore Nanjing Eco-tech Island Commenced

The Singapore Nanjing Eco-tech Island project developed by Nanjing Municipality and Singapore has entered physical construction phase. Construction of resettlement housing, exhibition center, roads and municipal facilities as the first batch programs have commenced. Lee Yi Shyan, head of Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Manpower of Singapore and Nanjing Mayor Ji Jianye attended and addressed the commencement ceremony. Principals of both sides jointly start up the laser ball symbolizing construction start.

According to agreement, implementation of the eco-tech island project is being expedited. The first batch construction items fall into three categories: resettlement housing with 1.4 billion RMB investment and 47,500 square meters construction area, and complete educational, sanitation, commercial, cultural and landscaping facilities for 5000 families on the island; the Exhibition Center near Jiajiang Bridge with 200 million investment, with functions of exhibition, office and public services, which will become an important eco-tech experiencing zone based on its green architectural design; the first road and municipal infrastructure program in the middle of the island with a 5km road and complete supply of water, electricity, gas and telecommunication system.
