Cargo Throughput of Nanjing Port Will Double in 5 Years

Cargo throughput and container throughput of Nanjing Port Group has been planned to double in 5 years. In 2015, cargo throughput will reach 150 million tons and container throughput will reach 3 million standard containers. It is equivalent to create another Nanjing Port by that time.

In 2010, Nanjing Port Group seized the development opportunities to drive restructuring, innovation and leapfrog development. Cargo throughput for the year was 72 million tons and container throughput was 1.44 million standard containers, increased by 20% YoY and hit record high for the old port of 100-year history.
During the 12th five-year plan , Nanjing Port will reinforce business of container and large amount of bulk cargo, crude oil chemical, commodity vehicle transferring transportation; meanwhile, it will go all out to develop business fields on air shipping logistics, engineering real estate, mechanical manufacturing, port headquarters economy. It will also insist on dual drive of production operation and capital operation to seek new development spaces.

Zhang Yingfang, general manager of Nanjing Port Group said that, they are confident to double throughput of cargo and containers at the port in 5 years; build a international, multi-functional and comprehensive transfer terminal port in the Yangtze River area; develop Nanjing Port into a most competitive public port operator and a comprehensive industrial group. They will build another Nanjing Port for Nanjing people.

Today, official signing of restructuring will be done for Nanjing Port. Sinotrans Group will join Nanjing Port, restructuring it from solely state owned enterprises to limited corporation. Restructuring will better benefit Nanjing Port to establish its modern enterprise system and increase its core competitiveness. It will be in favor of Nanjing s building No.1 River and Sea Transfer Port and Nanjing Yangtze River International Shipping Logistics Center .
