According to Nanjing Municipal Government, Nanjing started to apply for National Forest City since 2009 and this year it enters comprehensive implementation phase. Sign-off will take place in April, 2012.
By 2012, newly added forest will cover an area of 160,000 mu; 15 million trees will be planted; forest coverage (excluding water area) will reach over 35%; landscaping coverage and green filed rate in constructed areas will achieve 46.8% and 41.2%, and per person public green filed will be 14 square meters; water shore landscaping rate will be 85%, road landscaping rate will exceed 90% and urban forest naturalness rate will be no less than 0.
5; obligation fulfilling rate for the whole people voluntary tree-planting will exceed 85%, citizen s awareness of national forest city will hit more than 90% and support rate will achieve over 80%.
Striving for forest city will be combined with 10 function establishment of the city and prominence will be given to planning and construction of 1 park, 4 scenic areas, 5 regions, and 100 small gardens , i.e., expedite the Purple Mountain-Xuanwu Lake integrated construction to build the Purple Mountain-Xuawu Lake International City Central Park; build riverside and waterside scenic areas including Ming Outer City Wall-New Qinhuai River Scenic Area, Riverside Scenic Area, Qinhuai River Scenic Area, Binhe (Jinchuan River, Outer Jinchuan River, North Moat) Scenic Area; protect and renovate environment of 5 ecological areas including Qinglong Hill, Niushou Hill-Jiangjun Hill, Laoshan Mountain, Mufu Hill and Qixia Mountain; build over 100 small gardens in main city area to enable citizens have access to recreational green fields every 300-500m.
