Cotton Purchase Starts
As a key commercial cotton base in China, Xinjiang's cotton output takes about 40% of the nation's total. This year, the region has increased investment in science and technology, and further diffused the high-yield technique. Now farmers are busy picking and handing in cotton.
Manas, as a quality cotton demo base, has its 90% of cotton covered by the techniques of high-density cultivation and water-saving irrigation.
LI WEI, COTTON GROWER WEIJIACHANG VILLAGE, WUCHA TOWN, MANAS COUNTY:
"The water-saving irrigation technique is very good, I can earn over 90,000 Yuan from my 70-odd mu land."
At Qiman Town Cotton-ginning Factory under Kuqa Cotton and Ramie Company, as soon as the farmers hand in their cotton, they can receive the cash at the scene.
CUI XIA, COTTON GROWER KEQILIK FARM, KUQA COUNTY:
"I've handed in 20 tons, and I receive the cash at once."
As the cotton-purchasing work started successively in different places, the relevant departments of Xinjiang required that the fiber inspection institutions should strict the responsibility on cotton quality supervision. This year, over 80% of the cotton in the region has been covered by the new cotton examination system.
