The 16th Asian Games torch-lighting and relay kicks off at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. President Hu Jintao lit the Asiad torch marking the official start of the relay.
Zhang Lin, a distinguished swimming athlete took over the torch from president Hu, became the first torchbearer.
After finishing the relay in Beijing, more than 180 people including Guangdong governor Wang Yang witnessed the first relay from Beijing to Guangzhou on the plane Asian Games .
The flame of the 16th Asian Games arrived Guangzhou Baiyu Airport by the plane Asian Games . Wang Yang walked down the gangway with the flame. After the grand ceremony, the flame was escorted to Zhongshan by the flame attendants. Tang Ying, deputy mayor of Zhongshan city, attended the handover ceremony.
From now on, 80 torchbearers will begin the relay. Zhongshan, the home town of the great man Sun Yet-sen, is the first station of the relay.
