[Week 31, 2010] Asian Games torch relay route in Guangzhou unveiled

2010 Asian Games organizers last week said that a grand welcoming ceremony for the Asian Games torch will be held in Renmin Park on November 2 which will make its way through the city just before the opening ceremonies.

The torch will be carried through downtown Guangzhou on November 9 for an 18-kilometer-tour by 144 torch bearers. The trip begins in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, passing by the Five Ram Statue, Jiefang Bei Road, Jiefang Zhong Road, Haizhu Square, Binjiang Zhong Road, Binjiang Dong Road, Yizhou Road, Yuejiang Xi Road, and finally ends at Pazhou International Exhibition Center.

On November 10, the torch will arrive in the Lianhua Mountian area for a 5 km tour carried by 90 people among whom 45 are members of the Olympic Council of Asia. The torch will reach the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center for a 13 km tour on November 11, 80 bearers will carry the flame to pass by universities and Asian Games venues.

On Nov 12, the torch will arrive at Haixinsha Island for the opening ceremony as it lights the main torch at 9: 42 pm. According to Guangzhou Daily, a full list of the torch bearers will be released in September.
