The governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions will establish a management authority for the massive Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge this month, HKSAR officials said on August 3.
The project was discussed at the Hong Kong-Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference's 15th working meeting in Hong Kong last Tuesday, which was co-chaired by Hong Kong's Chief Secretary Henry Tang and Guangdong Vice-Governor Liu Kun, according to an official statement.
When completed, bridge will be the world's longest cross-sea bridge, linking China's southern economic hub of Guangdong to Hong Kong and Macao. The cost for the 73 billion RMB (10.8 billion USD) bridge will be shared by authorities on the mainland as well as in Hong Kong and Macao. The bridge is scheduled to be put into service by 2016.
According to a statement following the project's 15th working meeting, more studies will be conducted to examine how the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Express line can be aligned with Shenzhen's Qianhai area. Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao authorities will also release their findings for a regional co-operation plan on building a quality living area near the bridge site.
