On August 1, the Guangdong Youth Weightlifting Competition was held in the Dongguan Stadium as one of the 16th Asian Games test events. "It feels like the real Asian Games," commented a member of the weightlifting team during a test event.
Although it is a test event, it is difficult to enter the stadium without work permit. There are laps of warning lines around the stadium. 210 volunteers were also in place according to the Asian Games model.
"All the details meets the need of the Asian Games," Ali Moradi, the Asian Weightlifting Union Secretary-General said. Last July he came to Dongguan to take part in the building of a world class weightlifting venue. The changes that have taken place in a year surprised him much.
Twenty years ago, Ali put an end to his weightlifting career in the Asian Championship held in Dongguan. Since then, each visit to this city recalls memories of past glory. "It's a beautiful city. Weightlifting maintains a good development here. I hope more youth join in the event," he said.
