The 2010 Tan Kah Kee Science Award is presented to five scientists on June 9th in Beijing to mark their outstanding achievements in scientific research. Prof. Dr. Pei Gang, President of Tongji University won the award in life sciences for Novel Physiological and Pathological Roles of -arrestins.
The Tan Kah Kee Science Award grows out of the former Tan Kah Kee Award, which was established in 1988 and named after Mr. Tan Kah Kee (1874-1961), a well-known overseas Chinese leader who had remarkably contributed to the development of science and education in China. The objective of the Foundation is to reward prominent Chinese scientists who have made outstanding achievements, so as to promote China s science and technology development and to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The Award is presented in six categories: the award in mathematics and physics (including mathematics, physics, mechanics and astronomy), chemistry, life sciences (including biology, medicine and agriculture), in earth sciences, information sciences and technological sciences.
