Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda visited Tongji University

On August 25th, Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda was invited to visit Tongji University. Prof. Zhou Jialun, Chairman of Tongji University Committee, and Vice-president Chen Yiyi met with Mr. Yasuo Fukuda.

Prof. Zhou Jialun gave a welcome speech, and Chen Yiyi presented an overview of Tongji University and the Japanese exchange projects. Mr. Yasuo Fukuda gave an ebullient speech. He emphasized that the two countries should vigorously promote the community and non-governmental exchanges at all levels in order to develop relationship between Japan and China.

Youth exchange was one of the most important work with strategic significance, and was also the basis of non-governmental exchange, because young people were the future of the two countries, and they were also the important strength to promote friendship between Japan and China. We should educate our young generation with high sense of responsibility to let them understand the history, have zeitgeist and enhance mutual trust.

He said, Tongji University was a well-known comprehensive university with a long history. It was famous for its science and engineering, and made many contributions on international exchange and social service, which led to social development. He learned that Tongji got great achievement in Japanese exchange project and felt very warm and happy.

He visited Shanghai Expo and admired the various contributions Tongji made for the Expo, and sincerely hoped that Tongji would play a bigger role in promoting friendship between Japan and China.

After the meeting, accompanied by Zhou Jialun, Wang Xiaoshu, Chen Yiyi, former Prime Minister Fukuda met with all the final players in the 4th Japanese Youth Chinese Karaoke Competition, and encouraged them to get good result. Mr. Fukuda chorused with the players on the stage and gave an epigraph for the competition: Sino-Japanese friendship last forever .
