Professor Christoph Meinel, Dean of HPI, the University of Postdam, Visits CUC

On April 8th, Professor Christoph Meinel, Dean of Hasso Plattner Institute, the University of Postdam and Vice Researcher Chen Feng visited Communication University of China (CUC) for academic exchanges at the invitation of School of Information Engineering.
On the afternoon of April 8th, the two sides held a meeting for academic conversation in Room 904 of the Multi-Building. At the meeting, Vice President Lv Rui, as the representative of CUC, expressed his welcome to the visit of the delegation headed by Professor Christoph Meinel. He pointed out that HPI of the University of Postdam had been working at academic exchanges, scientific research, and talents training in the field of Information Science for a long time; Though the visit was short, he believed that the academic exchanges would deepen mutual understanding in the respect of scientific research and lay a good foundation for deepening and broadening academic cooperation between the two sides. Then Professor Christoph Meinel gave a brief introduction to HPI, its research projects, faculty and the cooperation pattern with Chinese universities. Liu Jianbo, Dean of School of Information Engineering, introduced the development history, the construction of preponderant disciplines of School of Information Engineering and the common points of the research projects of the two sides. He looked forward to having the next cooperation with HPI. In the later discussion, representatives of the two sides discussed further on the management of research projects, the way of inter-school cooperation and other issues. Professor Christoph Meinel said that CUC had a good international reputation, and the academic exchanges would foster a good momentum of mutual support and common development. He also pointed put that the two universities had broad space for cooperation, and the two sides should further strengthen substantive cooperation.
The following people also attended the meeting: Che Qing, Director of Science and Technology Department; Ren Guoxiao, Deputy Director of Computer and Network Center; Liu Jianbo, Dean of School of Information Engineering; Li Zengrui, General Party Branch Secretary; Vice Dean Shi Ping and Chai Jianping; Guan Yalin, Deputy Secretary of General Party Branch; Cai Shichao, Director of Electronic Information Engineering Department; academic leaders and the academic backbone of related disciplines including Professor Wang Jingling, Associate Professor Yan Jinyao, Associate Professor Cao Sanxing, Associate Professor Zhang Yichun, and Associate Professor Yang Cheng.
After the meeting, Professor Meynell and his party, in the company of responsible officers both of CUC and School of Information Engineering, visited the Demonstration Base of New Media Academy, Network Center, Institute for Data Broadcasting and School of Animation and watched some scientific research shows of the School of Information Engineering with great interest. Meynell affirmed the teaching characteristics of School of Information Engineering, and expressed the hope that the two sides should build a long-term sustainable cooperation relationship in the field of information science through joint scientific research, faculty exchange and other forms, and enhance teaching and research standards through their complementary advantages to achieve a win-win situation.
Hasso Plattner Institute was founded by the entrepreneur and software expert Hasso Plattner, who invested 200 million euros, and the government of the state of Brandenburg in German. It is a private education research institution affiliated with the University of Postdam. The visit of Professor Christoph Meinel and his party further expanded channels of international cooperation of School of Information Engineering, and added a new impetus to further strengthen cooperation between the two sides.
