Vice president Hu Zhengrong met Professor Loyd, Director of Reuters Institute, Oxford University who paid a visit to CUC on March 25, 2010.
On the evening of 25th March, Mr.Hu introduced the history, advanced disciplines of CUC, and the measures that CUC has taken to promote the undergraduate teaching reform and students exchange. Professor Loyd spoke highly of CUC s teaching Characteristics and the ever-growing international influence, then he introduced the basic information of Reuters Institute. Beyond that, they exchanged opinions on Sino-British communication policies, the future of traditional media under the tendency of media convergency, as well as challenges that the press is facing.
Earlier on the morning, Professor Liu liqun, assistant to CUC president and Professor Loyd held talks concerning the activities of international exchange and cooperation in CUC, in particular, the basic situation and the long-term future development goals of Nations League of Media Education " initiated by CUC. Professor Liu expressed high expectation of Reuters Institute s participation in the League to carry out cooperation in journalism. During the meeting, the two sides reached a preliminary consensus on scholars exchange, co-sponsored academic activities. Professor Loyd expressed welcome to CUC s teachers and PhD Students to visit the Institute.
Professor Loyd held seminar on changes in the British media and development of journalism in our school media center, during which Professor Liu Chang, Director of the Media Centre introduced research projects in the center.
Wu Min Su, deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Hong Li, Director of the English Department, Zhang Yanqiu, Deputy Director of International Exchanges and Cooperation Office, and Zhang Lei in Radio and Television Research Center attended the meeting and seminar.
Reuters Institute, established in 2006, belongs to academic research institution in Oxford University. Funded by the Reuters news agency, Reuters Institute mainly to carry out academic research, receiving visitors and researchers from China, Vietnam, India, South Africa, Europe, the United States and other countries. Hong Li, associate professor of the School of Foreign Languages has been a visiting scholar in the Institute.
