Tsinghua University s First Hospital (Beijing Huaxin Hospital) celebrated its 50th anniversary on October 22. Mr. Chen Wei from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Mr. Lu Ming, Vice Director of the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, Ms. Zhang Chunxiu, Vice Director of Beijing s Chaoyang District, Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin, Tsinghua University Council Honorary Chairman Wang Dazhong, Tsinghua Education Foundation Chairman He Meiying, Tsinghua Deputy President Chen Jining, Vice Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council Han Jingyang, and some former university leaders attended the commemorative ceremony held in Tsinghua s Auditorium.
Deputy President Chen delivered an address at the ceremony. He noted that Tsinghua University is working towards the goal of developing into a world-class institution, and that medicine and life science are an integral part of a long-term strategic focus of the university. He noted that building a first-class affiliated hospital is an important base for the development of medicine and life science and expressed the hope that First Hospital could be built into one that is not only first-class in China but also internationally renowned.
Professor Wu Qingyu, Head of First Hospital, said that its staff will keep in mind Tsinghua s motto of Self-Discipline and Social Commitment and work hard to develop the hospital into a top-notch facility.
First Hospital has several highly regarded medical centers, such as the Heart Disease Center, Urology Center, and Digestive Medical Center. The hospital is gaining increasing attention at home and abroad due to its advanced medical capabilities and innovative equipment used in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases, urinary diseases, diseases of the digestive system, and neonatal diseases. In particular, the hospital s pioneering research into the outcome of surgery and treatment of complex and severe congenital heart diseases has been widely recognized throughout the world.
