Tohoku University Day at Tsinghua

The Tohoku University Day at Tsinghua, a major communication event between Tsinghua University and Tohoku University, an eminent institution in Sendai, Japan, was held at Tsinghua on October 26.

Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin had a discussion that morning with Professor Akihisa Inoue, his counterpart at Tohoku University, prior to the opening ceremony. The two leaders exchanged ideas on future cooperation between their universities.

In his address at the opening ceremony, President Gu extended a warm welcome to the guests from Tohoku University. He noted that Tsinghua has enjoyed a long-term friendship with Tohoku University and expressed his hope that more faculty members and students from the Japanese institution would come here to study and conduct research.

Professor Akihisa Inoue extended his congratulations for the coming 100th anniversary of Tsinghua in 2011. He added that he hoped the Day would further enhance cooperation and exchange between Tohoku University and Tsinghua, who have ahready established a long-term relationship.

Tohoku University Day at Tsinghua featured an introduction of Tohoku University as well as academic workshops in such fields as physics, materials sciences, and economics and management. These provided opportunities for professors from both universities to communicate and exchange research ideas. A photo exhibition was also held to highlight the unique style and features of Tohoku University in Tsinghua's Main Building.

An agreement for student exchange between the two universities was renewed that day.
