The mock-up building of SOHO Shang Du, SOHO China s most recent project, has just been completed. Designed by Peter Davidson of Lab Architecture Studio, SOHO Shang Du is a 170,000 square meter (1.8 million square feet) mixed-use development, on a 2.2 hectare site, located within Beijing s CBD (Central Business District), the most concentrated development area, a block away from CCTV tower designed by Rem Koolhaas. The 3-storey, 1,000 square meter mock-up building has attracted thousands of visitors and potential buyers since its formal opening on November 27, because of its unusual design.
Sponsored by BMW, SOHO China held a grand opening party at the construction site of Shang Du on November 27. Over 300 VIPs including architects, developers, diplomats, senior executives from BMW, celebrities and journalists have attended the party. Mr. Pan Shiyi, Chairman and Co-CEO of SOHO China, said at the party that SOHO Shang Du is designed for those who stand out from the crowds and SOHO China is building architectures of the time.
The construction of actual building will be started in January 2005, and completed by mid-2007.
