March 24th - Interested in Japanese simultaneous interpreting? Then you should not have missed the lecture delivered on March 18th by Professor Song Xieyi, Vice President of Dalian University. He was invited to GDUFS by the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures (FALC).
Professor Song Xieyi received his Doctorate Degree in Japanese Language and Culture from Nagoya University. He is now the Executive Director of the China Japanese Education Association.

Under the topic "Skills and Methodology for Japanese Simultaneous Interpreting (JSI)", Professor Song gave his speech which covered the training methods and ability required for JSI, as well as ways to learn Japanese more efficiently.
Professor Song pointed out that in the current century, countries around the world are closely related to each other, especially neighboring countries like China and Japan. Thus talents proficient in Japanese are in great need in China. It is a priority in China's educational field to cultivate the talents of JSI.

"To be an excellent interpreter," Professor Song said, "one needs to acquire mastery of both their mother tongue and their second language. It is of equal importance to understand the culture behind a language. Practice makes perfect."
In regard to the essentials of simultaneous interpreting, Professor Song shared the importance to improve one's abilities in verbal expression, tackling emergency, as well as stress tolerance both physically and mentally.
