On the morning of March 5, Mr. Michael Thorne, the Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, the U.K, visits GDUT together with his colleagues, Ms. Sandra Hollis, the Vice President of Anglia Ruskin and Mr. Jimmy Wu. University President Prof. Zhang Xiangwei meets the guests.
Prof. Zhang extends his warmest welcome to the delegates followed by a detailed introduction to the university s latest development. He says, as one of the biggest engineering universities and the largest one in terms of student population in Guangdong Province, GDUT has received great support from governments at all levels. In return, the university has been making important contribution to the province s social-economical development. The President stresses that in order to further improve the university s quality of teaching and research levels, GDUT attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges with universities abroad, especially with those in the United Kingdom. Special funds are also set up to support teachers and administrative staff to study and visit abroad. On the part of Anglia Ruskin, the president says that the University is well known one in the U.K as it has long history and rich teaching experience in disciplines such as English linguistics, art, design and others. He hopes the two universities can run various cooperative programs in the future. At last, the president extends his invitation to Anglia Ruskin University teachers and students to visit GDUT as well as to attend the Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Competition, an annual event held by GDUT.
Mr. Michael Thorne begins by expressing his sincere gratitude to President. Prof. Zhang for the hospitality he receives during his visit. He says the aim of the visit is to lay down a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two sides. He adds that the magnificent and beautiful campus of GDUT leaves a deep impression on him, and he will spare no effort to promote bilateral cooperative relationship.
At noon the same day, Prof. Zhang Kun, Vice President of the University, meets the guests and holds a banquet in honor of Michael Thorne and his colleagues.
