March 23-Doctor Om Huvanandana from Dhurakij PunditUniversity gave a lecture on the principles of economics in Huanghua Hall on March 22nd. The lecture was organized by the MBA Education Center.
Doctor Huvanandana began his speech by picturing the future of the world. "The economic opportunity is going to happen here", he said. By "here", he meant the east of the world, more specifically, the member states of ASEAN. He believes that the ASEAN countries will enjoy steady growth especially when the ASEAN Community is established in 2015.
Doctor Huvanandana shared that he thinks highly of China's economy which set up its first free trade zone with ASEAN in 2010. He told us that many inhabitants in Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore have "China DNA". This makes it easier for Chinese people to connect with other countries which he called "good human resources".

After his introduction, Doctor Huvanndana took a look at the current situation of the Chinese economy with the audience. China has replaced Japan as the world's second largest economy only
after the USA. Thanks to the macro-control made by the central government, China gains a stable growth of momentum. He also pointed out that the challenge now facing China is how to narrow the income gap between the rich and the poor. China has to strike a balance between GDP growth and income distribution.
Last but not least, Doctor Om Huvanandana talked about the reasons causing a downfall on the economy. "Greed and speculations", he said, "people want to make quick money and they take risks". Doctor Om Huvanandana's lecture was full of humor and inspiration. He said that economic principles should be found in our daily lives. He cited the examples of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami and the high price of commodity in China. The lecture lasted an hour.
