H. E. Mr. Karunatilaka Amunugama, Sri Lankan Ambassador to China visited SDUST on the morning of January 19. SDUST President Wang Chunqiu met with the Ambassador, in the company of leading personnel from the International Office and College of Information and Electrical Engineering.
The Ambassador traced the history of friendship between the two nations and enumerated close bilateral ties in areas of culture, economics and trade. He said that the Sri Lankan President had visited China three times and met with the Chinese leaders within the last two and half years. Consensus for multi-level cooperation was reached between the two sides.
The Sri Lankan government attaches great importance to personnel cultivation with many measures to enhance its domestic education and to encourage students for overseas studies as well. There are over 1000 Sri Lankan students studying in China. As SDUST is prominent for its engineering disciplines, he hoped that an education center could be set up in Sri Lanka for joint education.
President Wang welcomed the Sri Lankan guest and briefed history of SDUST and resent developments. He mentioned that SDUST emphasizes internationalized education and has established ties with over 90 higher learning and research institutions in 18 countries like the USA, Japan, Germany, Russia, France, etc. Students from over 20 countries are studying at the university and joint education programs with foreign universities have been initiated. He believed that fruitful results could be achieved in future cooperation with the support of Ambassador.
After the meeting, the Ambassador visited College of Information and Electrical Engineering of SDUST, exchanged with some professors and toured the labs of college.
And in theafternoon, the Ambassador visited the labs of the College of Resources and Environmental Engineering and the College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, accompanied by President Wang Chunqiu and others.
